Impressions: Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine

And...we're back!

Yes, it's been quite a while since the last time Japanator went in-depth with Knights of Sidonia. In fact, we're verging on a full year since the last recap. That's partly my fault. You could say I mimicked the speed of the Sidonia itself when it came to recapping.

But that era is over, just like a certain era of our hero Nagate Tanikaze's life. Now it's time to Battle for Planet Nine!

Tonight, I will be playing some Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes because Redbox didn't have Bloodborne and I want to take it easy tonight. Even though Ground Zeroes isn't as hard as Bloodborne, I still get stressed out with sneaking around in stealth games so there is still going to be those times that I will screw up on camera and fail spectacularly.

Dissidia Final Fantasy is looking pretty hot

Time to get brawling in Midgar! Team Ninja's newest outing for Square Enix is a fresh entry to the Dissidia fighting series. The upcoming Sony PS4 game is an adaptation of the arcade game, with some sexy new upgrades. I never really got into the PSP title, as the controls on the handheld just didn't make a good fighter controller for me.

The trailer feels just right on this one, and with Team Ninja's history of fighting game controls, this promises to be quite the entry.

Annotated Anime: Unlimited Blade Works episodes 13-14

When last we checked in with Unlimited Blade Works, ufotable's big, fabulously expensive-looking adaptation of Fate/stay night's most beloved story arc left our heroes in the lurch. Though an adorable date opened episode twelve, the last installment before the show went on hiatus will be remembered by many as the day our heroes lost their beloved Saber (or rather "Seibaaaa!").

Unfortunately for people who aren't fans of losing, episode thirteen shows us that Shirou and Rin have a ways yet to fall before hitting rock bottom.

See more Anime Matsuri cosplay from RealTDragon

Anime Matsuri was last weekend and I saw some great cosplay at the annual convention in the heart of Houston, Texas. I ran into RealTDragon there who happens to read Japanator and make a lot of awesome cosplay-related videos on Youtube.



RealTDragon's video above showcases some of the great cosplay you expect to see at Anime Matsuri with some nice music and hijinks on the side. Check out the great cosplay craftsmanship and you definitely feel the love and enthusiasm from the cosplayers in the video.



There may be also a video from Anime Matsuri of me somewhere saying embarrassing things to a cute girl in a Groudon onesie but that shouldn't be any of your concern.

A Daily Dose of Music: Old School Thursdays

You know you're Old School when you think of Bleach as new school anime. Can you believe it's been 10 years since Okinawa Japan's Orange Range's hit single Asterisk graced the opening of Bleach? 10 years? I know the anime wasn't made yesterday, but still... that has got to make you feel old.

It's been quite a while since I checked in with the show or manga, as it just wasn't a good fit for me. However, much like Naruto, I always thought the show had incredible music. Asterisks is one of those tracks that you find yourself humming for years, and is recognizable after just a couple of notes, not many recording artists can claim that.

Anime Matsuri 2015 Cosplay Gallery 2 of 2

Here is the second batch of cosplay photos for you to enjoy! I apologize for the giant spread picture of Kaori from Your Lie in April, I too am still recovering from that one and have made it clear to the cosplayer that her awesomely done cosplay has greatly affected me emotionally. Another character that may bring on the waterworks is a Menma cosplay from AnoHana: The Flower We Saw That Day. Feels, baby. All da feels.



This second batch also features some great RWBY cosplays, which are always pretty nicely done every time I see them at a convention. There's also a Tomoko from Watamote cosplay in there too!

Anime Matsuri 2015 Cosplay Gallery 1 of 2

Japanator was back at Anime Matsuri, Houston's best anime convention this past Easter weekend and we've got pictures of some of the great cosplay at the annual event. I wasn't able to get all of the awesome cosplay due to some technical difficulties but was still able to get some for your eyes to feast on!



I personally enjoyed Anime Matsuri with all the nice people I met and all great cosplay I saw there. I just wish I wasn't down with the plague for most of it but there's always next year!







I'd like to make a special shoutout to PaperCuties, from whom I bought these awesomely cute posters and stickers! I am going to hang them up as soon I get the proper materials because these are so cool.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem trailer explodes my mind

I watch a lot of anime and video game trailers, as you can probably guess. However, I can only count on one hand the times a video has totally blown my mind and left me confused! During the Nintendo Direct show yesterday, a trailer was finally shown for long announced Atlus Wii U title, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. I mean, the concept alone is almost too much to handle. It's like going to the best buffet ever, and they have all yoir favorite foods, done perfectly.

I can't even tell you what kind of game this is? It looks liek adventure, or RPG, or maybe even some dancing? Who cares? It all looks so amazing, colorful and lively. When was the last time you saw a trailer for a game that looked this fun? Please, please make me play my Wii U again! I promise this song will be stuck in your head by the end of the day.

Don't object to the new Ace Attorney trailer

Nintendo fans have reason to celebrate, as the beloved 3DS game gets set to release in Japan this July. I've never gotten into the Ace Attorney games myself, as I have the patiene of a gnat. However, this one just seems a lot more exciting! Everyone is yelling!

Ace Attorney: The Adventures of Naruhodo Ryuunosuke currently has no US release plans set, and looking at the past release schedule of the series doesn't look good.

Prepare to return to Knights of Sidonia

Last year's breakout hit, Knights of Sidonia is getting set to return to airwaves next week, and there's a new commercial to get you prepared. So, what is that thing Nagate is talking to? It sure looks a bit.. Umm.. nevermind. The new season looks like fun though!

I started to watch this show, but personally found the character designs to be a bit jarring. I have full intention to go back to it this Spring, but just keep putting it off. Looks like I only have a few days left to get caught up!

A Daily Dose of Music: Perfume

Ayano, Yuka and Ayaka are back to get you off your feet Perfume's latest video for Pick Me Up. It's a poppy EDM number, that doesn't go to far in either extreme. The song remains dancey while retaining pop charms, which I don't feel like producer Yasutaka Nakata pulled off as well with his last Capsule album. That album went a bit too far down the festival club sound, and was a bit alienating to long time fans.

Perfume's always kept mainstream appeal, no matter what year it is, and I'm glad to see the trio still slaying whatever Japanese media they touch. It's fun number, and I'm sure we're going to hearing this one all Spring.

Japanator is going to be at this year's Anime Matsuri convention in Houston, Texas this weekend! One Piece manga to end next week

In shocking anime and manga news, Eiichiro Oda has decided to end his long running manga One Piece next week. The abrupt news coincides with the announcement that Shonen Jump has decided to shut down permanently due to a paper shortage. Japanese fans are shocked to say the least.

When asked why, Oda has just stated that he has made too much money, and not been able to buy any real Devil Fruit. Apparently the skilled mangaka believed that if he made enough money he wold be able to grow his own Devil Fruit and eat the mysterious Manga-Manga Fruit, gaining the ability to grow manga from his own hands. In possibly unrelated news, he recently announced his upcoming engagement to internet sensation Grump Cat.
