NISA rescues Cardcaptor Sakura, Blu-rays a go

Hoeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

While pinching myself, I'm here to share with you the great news that NISA has licensed Cardcaptor Sakura the TV series for home video release. The series was originally licensed by Geneon and sat in licensing hell for quite some time, so you will have to forgive me why I am so excited about this license rescue. What's even more exciting is that NISA is planning both a DVD Regular Edition and a separate Premium Edition Blu-ray release for August 5th. The limited edition will have a hard-cover art book as you can see in the top image, adding up to 76 pages of illustrations and new content.

But you know, while I appreciate that the Blu-ray discs are "metallic gloss" I just want the darn show on Blu-ray. The seminal magical girls show has long captured the fascination of a generation of oversea anime fans (and domestic as well). I'm guessing they will use the latest Blu-ray content from the Japanese remaster, which is a notable step-up from the latest DVD material. Last for not least, NISA's Cardcaptor Sakura will have a dub, too.

August can't come fast enough.
