Nintendo recently had a Mario Kart 8-centered Direct, and they ran through a bunch of the new features in game. They revealed some new playable characters (Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach), the new ability to upload replays to YouTube, online tournaments, and some items. One of those new items? The Super Horn. It blasts out sound waves that damage anything that gets near you -- even the Spiny Shell, the feared blue menace that has ravaged Mario Kart games since the dawn of time. Or, you know, the dawn of Mario Kart games.
Check out the trailer at the top, or the Nintendo Direct itself here. The Direct also has a pretty cool live performance of the music from the game, which is already stuck in my head. Nintendo is also in panic-mode for the Wii U, which means if you buy Mario Kart 8 (retail or digital), you'll get a free game code. Your choices are Pikmin 3, Winder Waker HD, Wii Party U, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Not too shabby!
I wasn't excited for Mario Kart 8 at all last E3, but now I'm totally hyped for it, as it looks gorgeous. I'm definitely going to be picking it up.
