AKB48 handshake events to resume this weekend

After two members of AKB48 and one staff person were viciously attacked by a knife wielding idiot, I was pretty confident that the super-groups already creepy handshake events were coming to an end. The girls are often made to deal with overzealous and obsessive fans, who go out of their way to obsess over their AKB48 girl. You can't quite blame the fans though, this was always group creator Yasushi Akimoto's intention. Create a band that you could meet, and easily see live.

While security will be tightened up going forward, including metal detectors, searches, and bag restrictions --I can't but feel like something like this may boil up again. Unhealthy idol obsession has become a strange phenomena amongst fans, with the worst of them acting our their crazy plans on these teenage kids. While I understand the appeal of the group, and enjoy their songs, I have to think that these young ladies are put into some pretty unfair circumstances.
