First Impressions: Sword Art Online II

Back in 2012, Sword Art Online’s first season caused a huge stir in the anime community. Most people hated the show because of Kirito’s character, while others started disliking the series when SAO was in the middle of the Fairy Dance Arc. And then there were those who enjoyed the show for what it was. Due to the divided opinions between SAO's viewers, there were many disputes that raged across the lands.

As for myself, I’m one of the few individuals who enjoyed Sword Art Online through and through. In regards to the show’s problems, let’s just say that I agree with former Japanator Features Editor Karen Mead’s piece where she expressed her views on the common issues that people had with Sword Art Online's first season.

Personally, my main issue with the first SAO series was that Kiroto’s progression through both games felt a little too fast-paced for my taste. That being said, Sword Art Online II seems to only be covering the Phantom Bullet Arc from the original light novel, which means that the show’s pacing might feel just about right. Since I’ve heard from a few Japanator Community Members that Phantom Bullet’s the arc when Reki Kawahara realizes what he wants to do with the series, Sword Art Online II might have the potential to become a better show than its previous season.
