The feud between these two rivals is finally settled. All that's left is to take breather, and hope that everyone hasn't been turned into plants by now. I guess that's also important.
The Good
The chapter picks up some of the action from last week, and that's a highlight. I was especially happy that my internal worries that Sakura was going to pop up and take that hit of Sasuke's the shield Naruto never happened. Instead, Naruto got in a rope-a-dope counter that would make the great Ali proud.
A problem that I have is that Naruto implies that this isn't the fight he wants. I really hope this isn't some implication that there's yet another brawl between these two on the horizon. Save that for the movie that comes out next month, fellas.
The Bad
I can't really say that I was disappointed in this conclusion, because I pretty much expected a double-KO situation from the start. It's almost laughable that Sasuke could just cast aside what we were led to believe are his deep seeded convictions, because he loses this one fight. Sasuke then takes up several pages to reflect on his tsundere-level of bromance for his rival. "He only hated Naruto because he cared too much."What makes this ending even more eye-rolling is that their blood pools together to symbolize them holding hands.
I'm sorry, but no. They should both be dead, everyone will suffer to turn into plant-people, and it's up to Kakashi and Sukura to try and repopulate the world. If there is one thing you should never do when you suffer massive trauma is go to sleep. Let alone all night. Yet this chapter would have you believe that you could lose an arm and take a nap without the benefit of a tourniquet or basic first aid. That's not even taking into account any internal bleeding, and I'm not even going to question the issue of how they regrow those missing limbs at this point. I could have believed this a lot more if Kishimoto had shown that Sakura had arrived and stabilized them while they were both unconscious. It could have taken one or two panels.
Verdict 3/5
This comes across less like a shonen finale and more along the lines of something seen in yaoi fan fiction. The fault of that mostly falls on Kishimoto getting a little too cute with the symbolism, putting too much focus on revisiting the past, and not focusing on the current plot.
There's a certain level of satisfaction that this fight should truly be over with. Now that both parties have been disarmed -- pun intended. I can only predict now, with two chapters left in the series, that next week will be dedicated to undoing the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and the penultimate final chapter will be pure epilogue. That really doesn't seem to be enough time to give a proper goodbye to the large cast that we've gotten to know over these fifteen years.
