KISS Finally Becomes Anime

Maybe KISS wasn’t the first band to ever go “big in Japan,” but they always seemed like the band that went about it the most shrewdly. Something about four metal gods in kabuki make-up and black moon boots is almost sstrategicallydesigned to bridge any language gap…

Keeping themselves relevant with Japanese listeners, the band’s partnered with the girl group Momorio Clover Z for a new, two-part collaboration. The first half of that team-up, “Yume No Ukiyo Saitemina” recently got an appropriately zany music video that finally gives KISS the anime make-over they somehow - - for some unfathomable reason - - haven’t yet received.

We’ve never heard of CMZ before but, apparently, they’re what you’d get if the Sailor Scouts ever put down their weapons to pick up instruments instead. Yes - - right down to color-coded outfits.

You can watch it above. But if you choose not to, the clips shows the CMZ and KISS having a battle of the bands (even though KISS only provides backing vocals and a few riffs on the actual track), and the girls eventually earn Paul Stanley’s respect after they Level Up. Simple enough, right?

LoudWire says they’ll be a second video, “Samurai Son,” wherein the villains will presumably take the lead and show these heroines how it’s done. Fire off with your opinions in the talkback. Is this music video a Pan-Pacific pop cultural collision? Or is it the peak of tackiness? And why, oh why, did Daft Punk get an anime over a decade before KISS did?
