If you had a rough day today. then Animator Expo's 15th short might be the thing to lift your spirits. Not only that, Shigeto Koyama's (Diebuster's Mechanical Designs) Obake-chan piece takes the concepts of ghosts and changes it from scary to cute. Instead the animation using the eight-minute time frame to tell a whole story, we're treated to a series of skits that sets up for some small laughs.
Besides the cute jokes, Obake-chan's other strength is how the team utilizes a very simplistic layout for the animation. The light brown background feels like it was done on light brown paper and the character's white lines help compliment the piece's ghost theme. Of course, the unexpected surprise at the end was priceless as well.
Now that we've passed the halfway point in the Japan Animator Expo project, the next 15 shorts are certain to bring joy to our lives during the Spring 2015 Anime Season. Then we can look forward to a relaxing summer in the next few months.
