BLEACH Ch. 594 Review

Wacca, wacca!
Wacca, wacca!

Love him or hate him. You'll fight your heart out for Pepe Waccabrada if you fall under his spell.

The Good

Well, Giselle has certainly been busy.
Well, Giselle has certainly been busy.

I was very pleased that the time loop from last week didn't make a return appearance. I enjoyed it, but one chapter was enough. However, I'm not really sure about the drastic and rather literal turn in direction the whole chapter takes part way through. I was really just getting into the battle of Kurotsuchi andHitsugaya, then things got even more crazy has Giselle reveals even more of her Soul Reaper collection. I was on the edge of my seat, then Pepe happened.

I probably would have been more upset if the brawl we come to wasn't starring Byakuya. He's a very entertaining character, and we've yet to get a better grasp on his growth after his training. I don't want to see the aftermath of his battles to prove how strong he can be. I want to see the action taking place. Seems as if we're getting a little of both.

The Bad

The sudden jump cut from the thrilling action to something that is really bizarre left me feeling both cheated and confused. It's not as if the whole issue of Giselle has been pacified. Heck, she hasn't even appeared in the last two chapters. Although, in a weird way that makes me more nervous. If she's not there, could she be out making more of her zombies? I guess that could be seen as a weird sort of pro/con issue depending on taste.

Verdict 3/5

I think I would have felt more upset if Kubo hadn't earned some major leeway with me over the past few months. With some patience, he's surprised me with how entertaining the Vandenreich vs. 13 Court Guard battles can be. This chapter does confirm some of my darkest fears. That Giselle has been lurking in the background and infecting the fallen characters with her blood to add to her zombie army. Who knows if there are others she's yet to reveal?

Ultimately, this is an entertaining but very confusing chapter. It's as if Kubo is teasing us and switching gears from out of no where. I just hope it's with some purpose that's quickly explained. I'm not going to make any broad claim that this Pepe guy doesn't have any potential. I'm going to hold off on being too harsh of a judge until I see what happens in the following chapter.
