New Knights of Sidonia movie PV shows off new angles

One of the most memorable shows from last year, Knights of Sidonia , is getting a compilation movie with new camera angles and improved audio. The compilation movie promises an increase in quality. Now we get to see more of the action and feel even more of the despair and death that Sidonia just loves to drop on its viewers.

Premiering in movie theaters in Japan on March 6, lucky movie goers will get a special treat in the form of character illustration copy prints from Sidonia author Tsutomu Nihei. The first 30,000 viewers in the first week will get a print of the Sidonia protagonist Nagate Tanikaze and those in the second week will get one of Shizuko Hoshijiro.

Community Spotlight -- 1/30/2015

Welcome, Anime Vice Community! Tom was joined by Sam this week to discuss the topic of the best manga of 2014. We often see so much emphasis put on the best in anime. The best in manga is a topic that I hope everyone shares their own thoughts. Tom also brought to our attention the video from Ame me on You Tube where they brought Ryuko's Scissor Blade to life. You should check out their channel. They've brought many more anime swords into the real world.

Remember that the US premiere of KILL LA KILL is coming next weekend. Will you be watching to check out the English dub cast? I may at least give the first episode a try.

BLEACH Ch. 612 Review

Ah, where are his arms?!
Ah, where are his arms?!

Not content to just wait, the members of the 13 Court Guard have gathered for the purpose of staging a break-in of the Reiokyu to helpIchigo. However, are they already too late to save the Reio?

The Good

I have fallen for Kubo's trap.
I have fallen for Kubo's trap.

The direction of this story is getting a bit confusing. Okay, a lot confusing. We start things off seeingYhwach stabbing the Reio, who's apparently also his father; but the story doesn't seem to put any emphasis on any aftermath of what is ultimately the villain's end game. I do like that Kubo is teasing us with the potential failure of the hero, but you'd have to be born yesterday to not realize there's a twist coming.

Even if it was a diversion from the major events, the lion's share of my enjoyment for this week's issue was in touching base with all the Captains and Vice-Captains back in the Soul Society. It's nice to see what everyone is up to now that front of the battle has come to such an abrupt halt.

The shock of the week goes to the realization that Yushiro, Yoruichi's younger sibling, is in fact a boy. No one can blame me for that misunderstanding, right? Right?? I suddenly feel incredibly awkward now. I can look past that, since the scene between him and Soi Fon was hilariously adorable.

The Bad

Even they're shocked to find out they have more battles ahead.
Even they're shocked to find out they have more battles ahead.

We now have the remaining 13 Court Guard Squad leaders planning an all-out invasion of the Reiokyu. Why? There's hardly enough baddies up there for Ichigo and pals. Are we spending so much time watching them prepare to head out then just sit on their hands to be witness to Ichigo's final battle?

For as much as I consider this a strike against the plot, I can't say that I blame them from the character's perspective. The battle is done on the Soul Society with the remaining Vandenreich dead or being stripped of their power. It seems entirely reasonable for them to want to be proactive in place of just sitting around and hoping for the best.

Verdict 2/5

Finishing this chapter certainly didn't leave me with the best impression on my first read through. However, I'd be lying if I denied it has some entertainment value. I'm just left scratching my head trying to figure out why the creator is spending time on the Soul Society in place of where the major events are taking place. I could wind up being completely wrong, and they play an important role ahead. As of right now, it feels more as if Kubo is stretching things out.

CUTE HIGH EARTH DEFENSE CLUB LOVE #1 -- Special Review

We're sampling all the new pilots this Winter. Check out our thoughts on...

In the interest of full disclosure, I feel I should say right off the bat that as the owner of a “Y” Chromosome, I was probably the wrong person to watch and review this show.

The only thing I can say about it is, looking at this series in a larger objective sense, I suppose it’s only fair that after decades of putting out shows featuring scantily-clad females, running around having all sorts of skimpily-clothed adventures in order to appeal to a male audience, Japan is finally beginning to produce shows like this (and also “Free”) which feature shirtless and scantily clad boys in order to appeal to their female audience.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander after all. And if shows like this end up attracting more female viewers, and make the world of anime a more diverse and inclusive environment…I suppose in the end I can only see that as a good thing.

== TEASER ==

Objective assessments aside, how did I personally feel about the show? Well…what can you say about a show that starts off by showing two naked guys sitting in a hot-tub, only to have a talking pink wombat from outer-space come splashing down into the water and inform the boys that they need to form a superhero team and defend the Earth with the power of love?

I was totally…on the edge of my seat when it was revealed that the boys’ upperclassmen in the snobby standoffish student council are secretly an “Earth Conquest Club” ruled by a talking green hedgehog. (Well, I was physically sitting in a chair anyway.)

And when the 5 boys the pink wombat selected to be superheroes transformed into magical love soldiers, and defeated the evil…soup condiment monster that the Earth Conquest club had created by shooting the monster with…”Love Showers” from their magical “Love Sticks”…I…well… look…in the end, all I can say is that, while I’m pretty sure I fall well outside the intended target demographic for this sort of thing, there are a lot of people out there who might genuinely enjoy something like this.

If you’re a person who’s been secretly crying out inside your heart for a show where guys dress up like the Sailor-Scouts and defeat enemies by hitting them with rainbows and love beams and the occasional fist in the face, then Cute High Earth Defense Club Love is the answer to your prayers.

Now that I’ve finished episode one, I’m going to celebrate by going out and getting some Japanese food. (And when I do, I will never look at the Japanese condiment “Chikuwabu” the same way again.)

Watch this pilot and you’ll understand why.

ONE PIECE Ch. 774 Review

Giolla very nearly hit the reset button on this already lengthy arc.
Giolla very nearly hit the reset button on this already lengthy arc.

Giolla is ready to revive her fallen comrades by exploiting the healing powers of Mansherry. If Leo fails to arrive on time, the tide of this battle will turn to the Don Quixote Family's favor.

The Good

Just once, I hope Leo responds to Mansherry with "As you wish."
Just once, I hope Leo responds to Mansherry with "As you wish."

I may just be shooting from the hip on this point, but I get the feeling that more devil fruits have been introduced in the Dressrosa Arc than any other to date in the ONE PIECE run. Within this chapter, we're formerly introduced to princess Mansherry, who holds the powers of the Heal-Heal Fruit. This certainly explains why Doflamingo would want to keep her captive, it clears up Sugar's earlier sudden revival, and Mansherry's tsundere relationship with Leo is certainly grin worthy.

You're almost left scratching your head that the Tontatta trapped in the SMILE factory were fooled into thinking their princess, who processes healing powers, had fallen ill. However, seeing how they're an astoundingly gullible people, I can look past that.

The Bad

Yes, protect the person holding a sword from harm.
Yes, protect the person holding a sword from harm.

I'm a bit disappointed that Nico Robin is looking to only play the shield for Rebecca, who has been a gladiator for years specializing in defense, to allow Kyros to focus his efforts on Diamante. Sure, that is rather irritating, but I can't say that Robin has a real bone in this particular fight. She's the outsider in this family feud. What gets under my skin more than anything in this situation is the wasted potential of the Flower Woman fighting all out in a giant field of flowers.

Touching back on the devil fruits, just how did all these isolated Tontatta get their hands on what should be so many rare fruits? It's currently four, by my count. It's one matter for pirates sailing across the seas to run into these things. I thought the Tontatta pretty much kept themselves hidden on Greenbit. I'm expected to believe that all of these ultra-rare fruits sprouted up on this one little offshoot of a larger island?

Verdict 3/5

It was a rather deflating beginning to this week's chapter. Having Robin leaping in to save the day last week in such a dramatic fashion, then revealing she only intended to act as a barrier between Rebecca and Diamante. I can't help shake this feeling that Robin outclasses the Don Quixote Family officer, but I can understand what Oda is aiming for in this situation. Even if it is a touch disappointing.

While so many new devil fruits popping up within such a short period may be confusing at times. Just don't confuse this as a complaint. It's always fun to witness the physics bending abilities of new fruits. I expect to see Mansherry's powers play a bigger role near the finale of this arc.

New Earth Defense Force 4.1 trailer shows off new toy

We just got a new awesome trailer for one of my highly anticipated games for 2015, Earth Defense Force 4.1: THE SHADOW OF NEW DESPAIR, and my lust for B-movie-esque video game bug stomping just got lustier (you know what I mean). This PS4 game is actually an enhanced version of 2013's Earth Defense Force 4, which was released in 2014 in the US as Earth Defense Force 2025 on both PS3 and XBox 360.

This new trailer for the newest installment in the Earth Defense Force (also referred to as EDF) series shows off the new weapons you can get to use in your alien and bug splattering mayhem. Seen in previous trailers, we get to see the Baram Walking Fortress which is a giant robot, fighting a Godzilla-type monster. I simply cannot wait to pilot that giant robot and punch some giant alien monsters.

One thing you may notice in the trailer is the much welcomed improved framerate performance and better lighting, this new EDF trailer also goes into showing off the new improvements to the new lighting they added in the first release of EDF 4. You can now go through dark tunnels with only your new flashlight, which I predict can add to the chaos when swarmed with giant acid-spewing ants and spiders.

A new vehicle gets added to the mix, an armed four legged spider tank called the Depth Crawler, small and agile while equipped with a flashlight for dark tunnels that can also cling and crawl on any surface. While very useful in tight dark tunnels, the Depth Crawler can also jump really high which makes it super fun in open urban environments with high places to land on such as buildings.

Check out the trailer above to see the new toys in this new entry. Also check out the first trailer for the game below.

OP Up! Super Robot Edition

Welcome to the first edition of OP Up!, a weekly selection of anime opening videos that is here to help you get through your Wednesday to the end of the week. This week's theme is about Super Robot anime and the many opening sequences that get you ready for some overpowered giant mecha beating up on some alien baddies.

This first video above is from the grand daddy of all super robots. Tetsujin 28-go is one of the earliest Japanese animated shows to be adapted for US audiences. Known in the US as Gigantor when it was brought over, the 1963 show Tetsujin 28-go is based off the 1956 manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama.

Tetsujin 28-go is a bit different from what we consider a Super Robot show nowadays. Instead of being inside the robot and yelling out his robotic super moves, Shotaro Kaneda, the young detective boy protagonist of Tetsujin 28-go (not to be confused with Kaneda from Akira), controls the the titular super robot with a handheld remote control device (while wearing those short detective shorts) and beating up on monsters of the week. Just look at that opening video, it's from a time that most you readers' parents weren't even born yet.

KILL LA KILL -- A Real Life Scissor Blade?

Ryuko’s Scissor Blade might have been one of the milder suspensions of disbelief anybody needed to take whilst watching KILL LA KILL, but… it was still clearly something with next-to-no basis in reality. Leave it to the smiths of MAN OF ARMS: REFORGED to show how something so fanciful actually could work in capable hands. To an extent, at least.

For those unfamiliar, MAN OF ARMS is a webshow dedicated to bringing fantasy weapons into the real world. Previous episodes have shown forging Inuyasha’s Tessaiga, Link’s Fierce Deity Sword and Squall’s Gunblade to varying degrees of practically. Think of it as “iron porn” for anybody who was really, really, really into CONAN THE BARBARIAN’s opening title sequence.

== TEASER ==

The men of arms, as it were, decided to make this build even more interesting by forging the Scissor Blade out of dozens of actual scissors. When you watch the video, they claim this adds an interesting texture of the face of the metal. I'd say those imperfections still wind up looking like... imperfections, but perhaps I’m just an iron philistine.

The choice of scissors for the base metal is double-amusing, perhaps, since KILL LA KILL came at the tail end of a sudden and inexplicable fad that saw scissors somehow factoring into every other anime. The smiths do note that it was impossible to recreate the workings of the swords as they were precisely depicted in the show (and they've already given it way more thought than any of Trigger’s sketch crew did).

After seeing this, what wildly fantastical anime weapon would you Vicers want to see MAN OF ARMS to create?

UNLIMITED FAFNIR #1 -- Special Review

We're sampling all the new pilots this Winter. Check out our thoughts on...

25 years ago, an infestation of gigantic, horrifying, city-destroying monsters called The Kaiju from “Pacific Rim” er…I mean “Dragons” appeared out of nowhere and began terrorizing man-kind. 3 years ago, it was miraculously discovered that a small number of humans have the ability to use the same power as the dragons (namely the ability to summon dark-matter, transform the dark matter into weapons, and use those weapons to attack enemies). Therefore, these special humans (who all happen to be beautiful teenage girls because…it’s one of those kind of anime) were gathered together and whisked away to a secluded tropical island where they were taught how to master their powers and trained to become humanity’s greatest hope against the evil Dragons who threaten the Earth.

Today however, the lifestyle these girls have grown used to over the past 3 years is about to be thrown into complete and total disarray because, for the first time ever, a male has been discovered with the ability to use Dragon powers. And this 16-year old boy, Mononobe Yuu, has been ordered to train alongside the girls (yup, you heard that premise right folks, Yuu gets to be the only guy on a tropical island full of beautiful girls) in the hope that he too will one day be able to join the fight against the Dragons.

== TEASER ==

At first, the girls are deeply doubtful of Yuu, and question whether he really is a “D” (the codename for people who can use Dragon powers) like one of them. But when Yuu shows the class his “D” powers…they remain unimpressed. Complaining that Yuu’s powers are so underdeveloped that the only weapon he’s able to form with the dark matter he summons is a gun. (Psssh! Lame!) The girls, by contrast, are able to form much more powerful and potent anti-dragon weapons, such as books, cartoonishly oversized mallets, and large bowling balls.

Clearly, Yuu has a long way to go before he’s able to reach their level. But before he can even begin to properly train in earnest, an alarm blares across the island, announcing that a Dragon is preparing to attack! Will Yuu be able to prove useful and help save the island from peril? He only has two friends so far who believe he can. The first is his little sister Mitsuki. The second is Iris Freyja (a girl who tried to kill Yuu upon their first meeting when he stumbled upon her bathing naked in the ocean, but then warmed to him after realizing that his actions were an innocent mistake).

Watch the next episode to find out if their faith in Yuu proves justified. And when I say watch the next episode, I mean you guys, feel free to watch it. I probably won’t. This episode struck me as spectacularly average. An amalgamation of things I’d seen in other pre-existing, better-done shows and movies. I didn’t really see anything especially creative or exciting here to get me invested in the series and make me want to watch more. But if the show should develop over time and become better in the future, by all means, send me a message to let me know, and I’ll consider picking it up again.

Watch this pilot and decide for yourself.

YURI KUMA ARASHI #1 -- Special Review

We're sampling all the new pilots this Winter. Check out our thoughts on...

The first time I battled against famed anime director Kunihiko Ikuhara was when I attempted to watch a series he created called “Mawaru Penguin Drum.” I say I did battle because I was forced to fight with every ounce of my strength concentration and will power to try and make it through a series which many of my friends felt was filled brilliant visual symbolism and deep artistic metaphor, but which to me just seemed like a pretentious confusing acid-trip. The story didn’t seem to make logical sense. The characters and the way they behaved didn’t seem to make logical sense. And even the visuals and the way physical people, places and things interacted with each other…didn’t seem to make logical sense.

If you believe (as I do) that animation is an art form, then Kunihiko Ikuhara’s work could best be described as “Abstract Art.” And I, personally, have never been very good with Abstract Art. (That’s not to dismiss Abstract Art as a valid form of expression, mind you. I’m just saying, the way my particular brain works…I just think Abstract Art and I are on two different wavelengths. I’ve never really been able to understand…exactly what it is I’m looking at when I try to look at Abstract Art, and I have therefore never really been able to appreciate it the way some other people have.) Because of this, I must confess that I lost my last battle against Ikuhara. I was not strong enough to make it all the way through Mawaru Penguin Drum. His show broke me.

== TEASER ==

But that was many years ago. So when my friends told me that Ikuhara had created a new anime this season called “Yuri Kuma Arashi” (a title which, in English, roughly translates to “Lesbian Bear Storm,”) I thought to myself, “Okay, just from hearing the name, that sounds on the surface like something I would probably…hate. But y’know what? I’m a stronger Otaku now than I was back then. My brain might not have been able to process the kind of abstract stories, characters, and visuals that Ikuhara had in his last show, but I’m a better man now. I’m ready for a rematch! And this time, I’m gonna win! You think you’re gonna break me this time? You think your story and your characters and your visuals are gonna be so weird and out-there that I’m not gonna be able to make it through? Bring it on! Let’s see what you got!”

So, your story begins when a meteor explodes in outer space, and (for some reason) this causes every bear on Earth to begin walking on two legs, and to become intelligent. …? Okay.…that’s not the weirdest premise I’ve ever heard. That’s not even one of the top ten weirdest premises I’ve ever heard. I can wrap my head around that. Easy!

Human-beings build a giant wall to protect ourselves from this new and dangerous race of super-bears. But two bears sneak past the wall and infiltrate human society by transforming into high-school girls (because the meteor that inexplicably caused the bears to become intelligent also gave them shape-shifting powers…?) Okay.

The bears-disguised-as-humans enroll in an all-girl school, gleefully survey their attractive classmates, and make plans to eat every last one of them. (Surprisingly, this part of the story actually makes sense to me. I can’t believe I’m typing this sentence but: “Seems like the logical thing for shape-shifting hyper-intelligent super-bears to do.”)

The way they talk about eating the other girls, plus the visuals that are shown as the schemers talk (flowers, dripping with honey, being licked off by the bear tongues) makes it unclear whether the bear-girls are planning to literally eat the girls (in the way a predator kills and devours prey) or figuratively eat the girls (in a way that would…y’know… explain why the show is called “Lesbian Bear Storm.”)

Maybe they’re planning to do one first, and then the other? The visuals are presented in an abstract way that keeps things vague and open-to-interpretation throughout the episode. It’s confusing as all heck but…y’know what? You still haven’t broken me, Ikuhara. What else ya got?

The bears capture and eat a schoolgirl named Sumika? (She disappears and it’s left unclear whether they killed and devoured her or…did the other thing to her.) Okay.

The bears call Sumika’s lesbian lover, Kureha, on the phone to taunt Kureha with what they did, and then challenge Kureha to come and fight them on the school rooftop if she wants to get revenge for the way they ate her girlfriend? (Okay? Doesn’t really seem like a super smart strategy but…okay.)

Kureha accepts the bears’ challenge and runs up to face them on the roof with the…sniper rifle Kureha keeps in her school locker!? (What the…since when do students…!? That thing can’t be legal…! Do the teachers know she has that…!? Where are the teachers anyway? Should they be getting involved with this? Maybe offering some backup? Or calling animal control or…? Y’know what? No. Stop thinking about this logically. Ikuhara’s stories don’t have to make logical sense. They’re symbolism.)

Kureha challenges the bears on the school roof. They push her off the school roof. At which point……the laws of physics cease to exist and Kureha……somehow falls into some kind of……void in the time-space continuum…..? And the surroundings transform into some kind of weird outer-space courtroom? (I swear I’m not being facetious. This is really what happens in the show.)

And a bear judge and some bear lawyers appear from out of nowhere and ask the girls to bear witness and testify as to whether or not the two bear-girl infiltrators have broken any bear-society rules by attacking a human community. And the bear-girls’ defense lawyer says they’re innocent because…if the judge rules against them that means the judge is a human-loving turd-juggler…and the judge is…….persuaded by this argument!? And so he dismisses the case, gives the bear girls permission to eat Kureha…..and then they eat her (in a visually symbolic manner which, whether it represents the first or the second kind of eating, is probably not suitable for children). And then…..the universe returns to normal and Kureha wakes up safe and sound in a hospital bed!?

And then….but….didn’t she just fall off the roof!?! What about the space trial thing!?! What was that!? Where did the bear judge and bear lawyers come from!? Where did they go!? Didn’t she get eaten!? I don’t…how could…I’m not….GOD D%$^&* IKUHARA!!!!!! YOU BROKE ME!!!! I CAN’T BEAR ANYMORE!!! I thought I might be able to make it through this series. But in the end, I was barely able to make it through one episode.

I think I’m probably the wrong person to review a show like Yuri Kuma Arashi because…I didn’t understand it. I mean, I was sort of following it until Kureha fell off the roof. But then once she went to space court…I just literally didn’t know what I was looking at anymore.

In the end, all I can honestly say is that if you saw and enjoyed Mawaru Penguin Drum, and if you enjoy anime that has an abstract and surrealist feel to it, then you will probably enjoy Yuri Kuma Arashi. I generally don’t enjoy those kinds of shows, so I didn’t enjoy this. If anyone out there can explain to me what in blue blazes happened in the last ten minutes of this episode, I’ll be all ears to listen. But until then, I think I need to wash Yuri Kuma Arashi out of my brain by sitting down and watching something a little less confusing, a little more grounded, and a little easier to follow.

Now where did I leave my “End of Evangelion” DVD?

Watch this pilot and decide for yourself.

ABSOLUTE DUO #1 -- Special Review

We're sampling all the new pilots this Winter. Check out our thoughts on...

Absolute Duo is a show about a high-school student named Kokonoe Tooru who is looking forward to his first day at a special school called Kouryou Academy. What’s so special about this school? It’s a training ground for students who have been injected with a drug called “Luciful” which allows them to harness the power of their souls and transform the spiritual energy into weapons (called “Blazes”) that can be used to fight opponents, defeat enemies, and protect the realm.

Tooru becomes distressed however when the chairman of the school board, Tsukumo Sakuya (who appears to be a 10 year old goth-girl…because it’s one of those kinds of anime) announces that Kouryou Academy has decided to welcome the incoming class by throwing a glorious Battle Royale and forcing all the students to divide into teams of two and fight each other, with the losers being permanently expelled from the school.

== TEASER ==

Tooru manages to emerge as one of the victors of this (extremely pointless, school-property destroying, human-resource-wasting) fight, and because of this he is deemed worthy to advance to one of the school’s regular classes. There, his homeroom teacher (who wears a French-maid outfit, high-heels, and rabbit ears like a playboy bunny…because it’s one of those kinds of anime) tells the students that in order to prepare them for the work they’ll be doing when they graduate (fighting enemies in two-man teams) each member of the class will now be assigned a partner whom they must learn to work with as part of a Duo. (Get it?)

Tooru is assigned to work with, and sleep in the same room with, the most beautiful girl in the school: A quiet and mysterious silver-haired girl named Julie Sigtuna. At first, Tooru interprets Julie’s silence as a sign that she dislikes him.

But later that evening, when Julie reveals that she feels comfortable enough around Tooru to have a warm heart-to-heart talk with him about…the fact that his name sounds kind of like “Thor” the god of thunder, and then fall asleep in his lap (wearing a loose button-down shirt and no pants…because it’s one of those kind of anime) a deep and powerful truth comes to light: 22 minutes have elapsed, which means the episode is over and it’s time to roll credits.

What can I say about “Absolute Duo” episode 1? As shameless fanservice anime go, I wouldn’t say this is the worst one I’ve seen. I don’t know if I’d necessarily even rank it in my bottom 10. There was nothing in this show that really…offended me or upset me on a visceral level or anything. In fact, there wasn’t anything here that really provoked a strong emotional reaction (positive or negative) of any kind in me. Everything here just felt very…average. The story felt like the kind of story I’d seen countless times before. The characters felt like characters I’d seen countless times before. Nothing really leapt out at me, or struck me as particularly gripping or fun or original. For that reason, if you’re looking for new anime to watch this season, Absolute Duo is far from the worst thing out there, but it’s also far from the best. And it is my personal opinion that there are several series out there which are far more worthy of your time.

Watch this pilot and decide for yourself.

Awaken your Samurai Soul with Animator Expo's tenth short

Is it just me, or has Animator Expo been on an amazing roll lately? After impressing us with TRIGGER's Gridman anime piece, Graphinica's (YuriKuma Arashi and Rage of Bahamut: Genesis' special effects) ready to take a shot at doing their own short for Studio Khara and Dwango's ongoing project. The end result was a vibrant music video where Koichi Yamadera (Cowboy Bebop's Spike, DBZ: Battle of the Gods' Beerus) sings an upbeat tune to a colorful samurai story. Best of all, the main hero/cool-looking afro samurai robot with shades in the video is none other than Yamadera himself. When I mean that he's the protagonist, I'm talking about his appearance as well (in his human form at least).

Aside from having a spectacular battle between two robot swordsmen, Yamadeloid brings joy to our hearts, as we see farmers, villagers, and masked guys dance to the vibrant feeling of Yamadera's passionate voice. All in all, Takashi Horiuchi (Origin ~Spirits of the Past~'s 3DCI) and Masahiro Emoto (Redline and Lain's Key Animation) did a great job with directing the video.

With 20 shorts left until Animator Expo ends, I think that it's still safe to say that this project'll remain strong throughout the rest of the Winter 2015 Anime Season, and the upcoming Spring 2015 Anime Season. Of course, my desire to see the rest of these productions increases with each passing week.

Community Spotlight -- 1/23/2015

Welcome, Anime Vice Community! It was a review heavy week that covered the topics of DURARARA!!X2 , THE ROLLING GIRLS ,GTO , and many more. Be sure to check out the News page for all articles for the week. One of the craziest bits of news to drop was that the band KISS was finally getting the anime treatment. It's more surprising that it took this long. I guess the industry held a grudge after the whole Nick Simmons plagiarism incident.

KILL LA KILL fans might be happy to hear that Toonami is picking up the fast action series, and it begin airing the English dub in February. Not as if there are any shortages of places to watch it already, between HULU and Netflix. I guess this will just broaden the audience to the wider English only speaking demographic. I, personally, haven't heard much of the dub cast. Are they any good?
