How Uniqlo plans to conquer America

If you're not yet familiar with Uniqlo, now is a good time to brush up on the company. Slowly but surely, the Japanese giant is rolling out stores across the US with plans of taking over the country with low-priced and well-produced clothing.

Racked has an exhaustive interview with some of the Uniqlo executives, giving insight into just how the company plans on dominating the market.

The basic points include focusing on where to build the brand. Major hotspots of New York and San Francisco capture a lot of peoples' attention, before methodically expanding outward. They build brand awareness through product quality (at the price point, anyways), celebrity collaborations, and acquisitions of higher-end brands as well.

Uniqlo's parent company, Fast Retailing, was in talks to purchase fashion powerhouse J. Crew. The talks fizzled, but don't be surprised if they start up again sometime in the future.

The Japanese machine that is Uniqlo provides a really unique experience for customers in the West. It has a certain politeness that isn't familiar in other fast fashion locations (such as H&M), and as it continues to expand will undoubtedly have an impact on customer service across the country.
