Ichigo's brash behavior may finally be his undoing as his attempt to save the Reio is turned against him upon grasping Yhwach's blade. By his own hand, he has put into motion the very destruction of the world he swore to protect.
The Good
Given the events of the conclusion to this chapter, I finally understand what Kubo has been leading up to by spending so much time elaborating on the Soul Society events. The Reiokyu is suppose to be ridiculously impossible to break into. Look at how elaborate of a plot Aizen came up with do to just that. This sort of experiment needs to be intricate for the characters and the reader. Otherwise, the audience will wonder how the 13 Court Guard members will arrive at the Reiokyu with such comparative ease.
A moment that I especially enjoy is Soi Fon calling Urahara out on his regular practice of underestimating his own allies. He's frequently either leaves any consequence to his plans to the last minute and there's no longer any opt out, or he'll leave them out entirely. These are the captains of the Soul Society. They didn't get to be commanders by being timid.
The Bad
While the current pacing finally starts to make more sense, it really makes the chapter by chapter situation a rather noticeable slog. These events are generally enjoyable, but it highlights one of the biggest weaknesses for Kubo's series. It very much reads better as a collection. It's just been rather amusing that the moments with Ichigo have been the more boring aspects of recent chapters for the purpose of setting up this very climax.
It's a minor issue, but why is it so important for Hiyori and the other Visored to get changed? Does the Reiokyu have a strictly enforced dress code?
Verdict 3/5
Now that the Soul Society looks to be falling apart, it suddenly makes sense why there is such an urgent needs to head toward the Reiokyu. The larger pacing issues seriously holds back what is actually an enjoyable reading experience. One would think Kubo would improve in his story composition after this many years, but this long in he seems content to move right along with his regular style.
