CASE CLOSED #765 -- Special Review

Oh, gee. Who knew what dangers lurked at a kite competition?

Much like the time I finally figured out where Babadi and Buu got their names from, I feel pretty stupid that it took this long for me to put two and two together about Conan's namesake. I was thinking of the barbarian, too much, and totally neglected Sherlock Holmes' author... until the detective's likeness was waving right in front of me.

So, no... don't come to me if you need to solve a mystery.

Although, that said, the culprit in this particular whodunit is obviously the victim's jealous brother. Who was telling him exactly where to step, huh? Who was looking at that particular spot in the fence? Who is going to profit more when the competition for this floozy is out of the way? There's no way it isn't him.

I get the biggest kick out of watching this. I haven't seen a junior detective furrow his brow so seriously over such small business since reading ENCYCLOPEDIA BROWN back in middle school. And the fact that the relationship drama in this episode centers on the ethical dilemmas of surreptitiously using to Shazam to figure out the name of a pop song is just... hilarious.

If any of you lunatics disagree with my theories on the case, I'd love to hear your guess about the culprit's identity. No cheating and checking the manga, too. Do you think your powers of deduction are sharper than mine?

Watch this episode and decide for yourself, then read my thoughts on the previous episode.
