The new Lupin live-action trailer is here!

The live adaption of the classic anime thief Lupin III, is set to hit theaters in Japan on August 30th, but you don't have to wait that long to get a glimpse. There's a new trailer making its rounds, and this time the video is adorned with a new song by Tomoyasu Hotei, entitled Trick Attack. You are probably most likely familiar with Hotei's work from the popular Quentin Tarantino film, Kill Bill.

While I'm not hating on the movie yet, I'm just not really drawn to it yet. Lupin was one of those anime that just always worked perfectly as an animated property. Everything about it was so exaggerated and over the top, that trying to capture it with actors just doesn't feel right. I've also been burned by the last few anime adaptations that've come out. The Gatchaman, Patlabor, and Yamato films were just so bad that I have kind of sworn off any hope for Japan pulling off anime adaptions going forward.

There is still something a bit charming going on here, and maybe the non sci-fi nature of Lupin may keep the movie grounded, and make it its own thing? I guess I still have a bit of hope left in my heart!
