A Daily Dose of Music: Ayumi Hamasaki

I've always been quick to defend against the critics of Ayumi Hamasaki's lengthy career. After a 16 years in the business, there's bound to be a fair amount of ups and downs. However, I have to admit that there hasn't been a song she's released in the last few years that I could really get behind. Many felt like they were either too forced, or attempting to be too trendy. I was beginning to worry that Ayu had eschewed the things that made me fall in love with in the first place.

Luckily, all of this melted away with the first few measures of her new song, Zutto. A striking ballad, notably devoid of any EDM build ups or twangy guitar riffs. Just the sweeping, dramatic Ayumi Hamasaki we all love. The lack of noticeable auto-tune is quite pleasant to my ears. The princess of J-Pop looks stunning as you probably expect in this simple, yet effective video. Is 2015 the year old school fans of J-Pop get what they want?
