Has Yhwach been controlling Ichigo Kurosaki his entire life, or is this just some trick to throw off our hero's determination?
The Good
It's really unfortunate that all the positives in the art and action for this chapter had to be ruin by the dialog.
The Bad
Just how many times is Kubo intending on pulling the grand puppet master card in a single series? Well, I guess not that many times. Given this is the final arc. Back when Aizen tried claiming that everything happened according to his will, I rolled my eyes, but at least he had some semi-plausible logic behind his boasting. Yhwach now saying that EVERYTHING Ichigo has done was for his benefit is beyond ridiculous. It makes me think of a child, who's losing at a game, and claims that they meant to do that.
I could accept that Ichigo grabbing Yhwach's sword could have some sway over his actions. That was a direct physical contact taking over the Quincy blood of someone caught off guard. However, the best evidence Yhwach pulls out to back up his words is that Ichigo uses the word "stop" in place of "kill". It would be an entirely different matter if Ichigo had been the sort of character who was out to kill everyone in his way, but that's never been his motivation. I can only recall a single moment when Ichigo even contemplated killing, and that was back in the Fullbring Arc. That was when Shukuro messed with the memories of this friends and family. Driving this perpetual protector to the point of even considering killing was one of my favorite points of that whole arc.
To top all of this off, we end with the appearance of Uryu -- one of my least favorite aspect of the arc. There has only been one time this series he's ever been considered even a second-level threat, but now I'm suppose to believe he could get the drop on Yoruichi and destroy her barrier -- that was erected to hold back Yhwach.
Verdict 1/5
Kubo has to stretch so far to make the claim that Yhwach has some deep seeded control over Ichigo that he given me the impression that he's forgotten how he's written his protagonist up to this point. Maybe - maybe - this is an issue of something being lost in translation, but I pretty much doubt it. It also doesn't help that this has to end with Uryu stealing the show from out of nowhere. I'm starting to get some really bad late-NARUTO vibes on where this is starting to head. I'm really hoping that Kubo hasn't jumped the shark here and gets things back on track.
