ONE PIECE Ch. 778 Review

A literal process of elimination.
A literal process of elimination.

Tired of Pica targeting the weak and injured, Roronoa Zoro cuts the mountain man down to a mole hill before finally silencing his squeaking voice for good.

The Good

Don't bet the farm on that one, Pica.
Don't bet the farm on that one, Pica.

I'm sure the larger majority of those reading this review have at some point heard the classic saying, "Once you remove all the other possibilities, all that remain must be the truth." This chapter is essentially that philosophy in the realm of action-shonen. I had notice in last week's issue how Zoro slashed the Pica head in half but only one side seemed to retain life. I just never thought much about it. Imagine my surprise when that turned out to be key to Zoro's victory.

Zoro may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's not a complete fool. This chapter proves that to be the truth in his practical thinking when it comes to combat. That's the sort of wisdom that comes with combat experience. We saw something similar in his defeat of Monet without harming her, but Pica's defeat is on an entirely different scale.

I hope that this display finally proves to Kin'emon that Zoro is more than worthy of using Shusui. I sure wouldn't want to argue with a guy strong enough to slice a mountain sized man in half.

The Bad

All the events are incredibly predictable, but that never really took away from my reading experience.

Verdict 5/5

Despite knowing that this sort of finale was imminent, due to last week's build up chapter, it didn't effect my enjoyment of these events in the slightest. The level of art and scale put into this is really incredible. It would be so easy for this chapter in particular to look far too busy, but everything looks almost sharper than usual. It's action and destruction on the scale of a Michael Bay flick....only without a Shia Labeouf or Megan Fox running around. So, a good sort of action.
