Let's take a look at an instant Military meal from Japan

Now I've had my share of US military rations, better known as "Meals-Ready-to-Eat" (MREs) I've often wondered how other countries handled their on-the-go meals for their troops. US military MREs aren't the tastiest and often it's up to each individual's preference as to which is their favorite (mine changes all the time and I hear they've changed the veggie lasagna).

We've known Japan and how they have their own high standard and respect for their food but how do they handle their MREs of their own Self Defense Forces? Youtuber emmymadeinjapan got her hands on one and puts the Japanese MRE to the test in the video above.

While similar in using the heat packet tech seen in US MREs, the Japanese version goes for a big steamer bag approach with the rice trays and entree inside rather than the US styled single sleeve pouch in a box. Since it's made for Japanese people in mind, the Japanese MRE rice looks like it's real rice from a rice cooker instead of being a mushy mess seen in US MREs (yuck). Since Youtuber emmy is Japanese, I trust her word that the rice is good.

MREs are designed to give you a full day's worth of calories and the US version comes with an assortment of things such as the entree with side stuff and even a dessert. The Japanese MRE featured in the video goes for a fuller rice based meal approach with two rice trays, an entree, and a few packets of furikake rice seasoning. The Japanese entree, the Amakara sauce (Sweet and Spicy sauce) with pork bits sounds pretty good and it sounds very appealing to a person of asian descent like myself who lives mostly on rice.

Have you ever had an MRE? If so, what did you think of it? Have you traded the items inside before? M&M's are gold. Share what you're thinking about in the comments below, yo. DO IT.
