There were rumors scuttling around for a while about Persona 4's Rise Kujikawa being a playable character in the upcoming fighting game Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and they proved to be true with the recent issue of Famitsu and Dengeki PlayStation.
The rumor spread about when Rise Kujikawa and Persona 3's Ken Amada's name both popped up on Best Buy's product description, which led to fans wondering if it was sloppy editing on the retailer's part or if it was a real, accidental leak. With Rise out of the bag, it seems leaning toward the latter -- so don't be surprised if you see a Ken announcement!
While Rise was a featured character in both Persona 4 and Persona 4 Arena, she was never given an offensive role, supporting the team as an analyst and navigator in P4, and being a commentator and announcer in Arena. With no distinct attack capabilities to speak of, I'm really interested to see what the team will have her do.
Maybe she can emit powerful radio waves? It's easier to imagine her defensive capabilities, as I can see her Persona creating a powerful shield. Wait, what if Rise's attacks were all idol dance moves?! Instant-main. And hell, let's throw Fuuka Yamagishi from Persona 3 in there while we're at it! Support character v.s. support character!
I had a great time playing Persona 4 Arena, and Ultimax is looking like a hefty upgrade. Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori from Persona 3 have already been confirmed, as well as a new character Sho Minauki, who seems to be an "evil Yu Narukami" of sorts. Ultimax will be the first of the slew of Persona games heading to the west, releasing in the Fall of this year.
