Breakout idol Kanna Hashimoto now powers mobile game girlfriend

The Japanese mobile game Girlfriend (Beta) has an all-star seiyuu cast and launched late last year. It accidentally fueled a meme earlier this year, when veteran voice actress Sakura Tange's French-named character crunched out her name in a series of adorable weird sounds. That wasn't enough for the marketers of this game, it seems.

Kanna Hashimoto, the super-cute idol from Fukuoka that has taken the Japanese internet by storm, is now voicing a new character in Girlfriend (Beta). This would be Hashimoto's first game voice role. The above promo video features Hashimoto wearing the same school uniform as her character in the game.

I think this getting into very dangerous territory! Dangerous for fan's wallets--the Japanese idol fan circuit already robs its fan of their money through events, videos, CDs, limited goods and bonus merch. The mobile game future seems to be the one common next step for these franchises, and what happens when you start bringing in real stars like this so-called "once-a-thousand-year" idol into the whole anime/manga/game paradigm? I love it and am scared at the same time.
