Gainax's Aoki Uru set for 2018

Last year, Studio Gainax announced that they were finally returning to their Aoki Uru film project. A sequel to the classic Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise, the film was initially conceived of in 1992, but for a variety of financial reasons, it never happened. The years passed by, and after a handful of attempts to get the project going, things finally started to look up.

According to a website for the Japan booth at the famous Cannes Film Festival, the 120 minute Aoki Uru is now scheduled to hit Japanese theaters in 2018.

No, you didn't read that wrong. The long planned Royal Space Force sequel is still a good four years out in the very least.

Hopefully this actually ends up getting made. As it stands, it seems like it's in a really nebulous space.
