Last week on a post about the Attack on Titan manga reaching 30 million volumes sold, I wondered what the numbers were for other popular series. Several days later, Mangazenken posts which are the top 20 manga series based on their publication numbers. Coincidence? Yeah, most definitely. However, still fortuitous in the pursuit of strange knowledge.
According to that list, the most popular manga series is none other than One Piece, the long running shonen series about awesome pirates. Eiichiro Oda's cash cow has published 300 million copies of manga. That's insane on so many levels. Following the pirates is the most famous of stoic assassins, Golgo 13. He's put away 200 million copies of manga. For the rest of the list, hit the jump to see what else is on the list.
What surprised me here is the location of some of the bigger titles. Dragon Ball is fourth with 157 million, Naruto is in seventh place with 135 million and Bleach is 18th with 74.6 million. It's pretty neat to see just where the audiences flow. While there may be decent numbers in other series, it seems that everybody reads One Piece. Hey, that's alright in my book!
