The Dose: Old School Thursdays

Can you feel the sun starting to fight against the stubborn cold? As our clothes start to get lighter, and we creep out into society again, it can only mean one thing. Yes, the season is changing. Many songs come to mind when I think about this time of year, but nothing has ever come close to representing the arrival of Spring quite like this.

We travel back to the year 2000, and visit with the Fukuoka native, Ayumi Hamaski. The Empress of J-Pop burst onto the scene in 1998, packing an arsenal of an amazing voice, good looks, and an impressive personality, taking Tokyo by storm. I actually wasn't a huge Ayu fan when she first made her debut, but when her single Seasons hot the airwaves I became her number one fan.

The track, which was featured in the drama Tenkiyoho no Koibito became her second most popular single, and was co-written by her an mega-producer Dai Nagao. Although unconfirmed, the song is about a friend that she lost, often bringing her to tears during performances. Although some critics go after Ayu for exploiting peoples' emotions, her reaction feels genuine in this performance, just making her more endearing to me. However, I'm probably not the best judge as Ayu can do no wrong in my eyes.
